Painting with Yogurt…

Mabel loves to paint. And at three years of age she knows not to put the paint she’s using in her mouth. Her 1-year old sister on the other hand… So I Love this easy recipe of edible paint for babies and toddlers. You don’t want them to eat it, but if they do its o.k. Evelyn should be able to have some fun as well!

What you’ll need:

Plain Natural Yogurt

Kool-Aid in all colors

Glass containers

A spoon to mix

How to create:

Put 2 spoonfuls of plain yogurt into your small glass jar

Add half the packet of Kool-Aid to your yogurt and mix

I Love this easy recipe of edible paint for babies and toddlers...
Say cheese!

If your child has an allergy to dairy you can use any other version of plain yogurt you like. Coconut yogurt is a great option.

First of all, I would like to share this homemade “playdooh” recipe my mum used to make for me:
25 dkg flour
2 tablespoon of salt
2 tablespoon of oil
1 teaspoon of citric acid or cream of tartar (to prevent mold)
3 dl water
Boil the water (color here) then just mix everything in. Stir with a spatula, it’s done when it’s in a ball, then let it cool a little and put in containers then in the fridge to prevent drying.
I’m sorry it’s not in cups but we don’t use it here:) So, you can color it with food coloring or maybe with koolaid too, I don’t know it’s not in shops in Europe but worth a try:) This recipe is non toxic, (ok, it’s not too good either if they eat it, it’s all flour and salt, but there wont be any problem. All natural, and you know what is in it). You can get it out from the carpet once it’s dry, and you can wash out from clothes.
Also I love your blog! And I love that you write the posts and not publishers or assistants. I might be only 16 and I think I have 10 more years until I will have my first baby, but I like reading mommy blogs. Better be prepeard, right? And I have a beautiful chubby 5 months old baby cousin, so I will definitely make the paint for her when she’s a little bigger. I also like how you raise the girls. Crafts, real foods, real family time. You’re doing a wonderful job!:) Also with your stepdaughters I loved how you and Mr. Willis (oh and you two make a gorgeous couple) supported Rumer and Val on DWTS. It was heartwarming to see how well you get along with the girls:)
Greetings from Hungary,
Réka

ps.: I know that you came to Hungary just after a month you gave birth, and it must have been hard, but I hope you had a wonderful time, and will visit us again:)

You will be way ahead of the curve when you have your kids! Take your time. Mommy hood is fun but it’s hard work! I’m happy I waited till I was well into my 30’s. I got lots out of my system and was very ready to be a mommy 🙂
I will try this play doh recipe for sure!! Thank you Reka xx

Hi Emma! What a great idea! My one year-old gets more yogurt on the high chair tray than in her mouth so she would love to paint with it.

My four-year old’s preschool teacher added food coloring to plain white shaving cream and let the kids paint with it. You can also put it on a tray or cookie sheet and let them use their fingers to practice writing letters and drawing through the shaving cream on the tray. I’m not sure it would work with the littlest ones as they could get the shaving cream in their eyes, but the older kids love it.

I really enjoy the blog, Emma, and I think it’s great how everyone comes together as Moms to share ideas and advice! Best wishes to you, Bruce and all the girls!

Emma Heming Willis says:

I love these ideas!! The shaving cream with food coloring could be great in the bathtub for “painting.” Awesome ideas. I’ll add this one in! Thank you

I also love how all the moms and grandma’s share! That’s why I started the blog. So everyone can share their experiences as we have so much to share with each other. xxx

Hi Emma, thank you. Does it dry ok? or does it take a while?

Rosetta Patafie says:

Hi Emma! Thank you. Does it dry ok?

Emma Heming Willis says:

It dries fine! But I didn’t keep them around too long as it is yogurt “paint.” Unless you want to preserve the art in the refrigerator 😉

Emma, just had to thank you for sharing the great pics of Evelyn! I dare anyone to look at that beautiful smile and frown…can’t be done!!! LOL (RK)

Hi Emma – great post + great pics! I love the idea of using yoghurt as paint. Its the simple things that often work the best isn’t it! We can’t really get kool aid here in Australia (I had to google it to work out what it was!) so I might try just plain food colouring or perhaps jelly crystals. I also do lots of fondant cake toppers and my little man ‘helps’ me because its like play doh to him. Problem is its normally one for the cake and one for his tummy! Enjoy your lovely summer – its the middle of winter here and last night we was the coldest day of the year so far… brrr 🙂

Emma Heming Willis says:

Hi Wendy… Can you get Jello mix? That works just as well too. xx

Hi Emma
As always I love the idea sharing from people around the world and love all the arts and cradft ideas. That pic is the cutest.
All the best

Wendy R says:

Hi Emma, thanks for the tip – your powdered jello appears to be similar to our jelly crystals. We tried it tonight with strawberry and blueberry – hilarious results. My little man loved it, painted a bit, wore some, ate some – laughed lots!
