Jet Lag Remedies…

I’ve been talking a lot about traveling these days as I’m slipping back into my traveling shoes once again. I’ll be making more and more trips to Europe in the next coming months and I’ve been brushing up on my roster of jet lag remedies so when I arrive, I can hit the ground running and not feeling like I want to take a long cat nap.

A few of these simple suggestions might sound a bit obvious but it’s sometimes nice to reiterate:

Stay away from alcohol on the flight and drink lots of water. I talked about how much water you should drink on your next flight here . But if you need a quick recap, you should drink 8 or more ounces of water for every hour you’re on the flight. Flying is so dehydrating and being dehydrated only will add to that feeling of tiredness when you arrive.

Try and eat as clean as you can on the flight and the day you arrive. Even bring healthy snack options to get you through your flight. I’m heading to Rome in a few days, so wish me luck with not wanting to overdose on pasta when I arrive! But by eating clean, your system doesn’t have to work as hard to digest. When your system kicks in to digesting heavy foods, you will really feel that need to sleep.

If you arrive in the morning and you just don’t feel you can last the day, take a nap but set your alarm! And when that alarm goes off, get up! Get some exercise and some vitamin D. If it’s walking, stretching, or getting in the gym, I promise, this will help get the hormone cortisol going to help rejuvenate your system. The sunlight will help reset your body clock.

Try this Scandinavian ritual of dry body brushing . Not only is it a great way to exfoliate the skin it also helps boost your immune system by ridding the body of toxins. This will stimulate your tired body.

Take a bath to unwind at the end of the day. These bath and shower oils are Amazing from Aromatherapy Associates. This one will lure you to sleep but if you need to wake up and energize yourself try this one . What I love about these oils is that if you’re not a bath person you can rub it all over your body before you get into the shower. If this is too pricey you can always make your own concoction , bring it along in a small jar which I do for my kids to help them relax.

Before heading to bed try some of this Pure Rest Oil by Uma . I rub 4 to 5 drops into the palm of my hand then apply it to my pulse points and temples. I’ve fallen in love with their line of wellness oils. They even have Pure Energy Oil . Perfect for that jet-lagged mind!

As much as I would love to rely on a good ole sleeping pill to get me off to sleep I have to say they don’t agree with me– making me feel so groggy in the morning. I love this natural sleep aid from Bach’s Rescue Remedy . A few sprays under your tongue will help clear your mind and ease you off to sleep.

Hope some of these tips help you on your next trip. Europe here I come!

Nice to hear you’re heading to Europe, why don’t you swing by our beautiful vibrant Edinburgh here in Scotland ,it’s festival time here and the city is buzzing, lots of shows to see and a great atmosphere .

Enjoy your trip to Europe, especially your visit to the Vatican. When my friend Carol and I made a pilgrimage to Israel and Rome many years ago, as we were flying from Israel to Rome the Pope was flying from Rome to Israel. We kept watching out the plane windows to see if we could wave to him as he flew by.
Re: Jetlag…Back in the days of Brucewillis.com, I remember asking BW how he dealt with overcoming jetlag. I’m embarrassed to admit I don’t remember exactly how he answered but I do recall that one of our members had the perfect reply…make fists with your toes!!!
