Having kids has really brought back my excitement for national holidays. But what’s also exciting is to be able to reeducate myself on the meanings of all these holidays again. It’s amazing the new facts I’ve discovered that I missed first time round.
With the 4th of July around the corner and a BBQ in our sights for our family and friends, I’m having the girls make their version of firework T’s for our guests. I’m all about a simple project in general and this fits the bill. Plus it’s messy and fun. I loved how Mabel’s t-shirt turned out!

What you’ll need:
Fabric paint in blue and red
Foam paint brushes and you’re off to the races!
Have a messy, safe and happy 4th everyone!!

Hi Emma,
I used to love to paint t-shirts and tote bags with the kids. So messy but so much fun.
I love the 4th of July. It’s my favorite holiday of the year. Picnics, family and friends all celebrating this great country.
I’m very patriotic. I tear up at the national anthem.
I hope you have a wonderful and safe 4th of July celebration. God bless you and your family and my god bless us all.
Until next time,
Roxanne 🙂
Emma,
What a wonderful idea! I can almost hear the giggling just looking at the photo…your guests will love them. And after this weekend, the shirts will bring back sweet memories of a great time with terrific friends. I still sleep in my “Nice, AreKay, very nice” tee shirt from Vegas. LOL! Enjoy celebrating our nation’s birthday. Interesting “new facts about the Fourth”, too. Other individuals celebrating their birthday on July 4th include Neil Simon, Gina Lollobrigida, Geraldo Rivera, Eva Marie Saint…and me!
Have a happy 4th and a Happy Birthday!!!
Emma,
Thank you!!
PS – Mabel is left-handed like her Daddy?
Call me crazy but I am a big fan of “messy” with kids. I think it teaches them it’s OK NOT to color outside the lines!
Oooops, messed that up….ok to color outside the Lines….raise little individuals!
I’m with you! At this age it’s all about messy. It’s how it should be 🙂
What an adorable idea! I remember when I was growing up my mom always used to say to us, “It’s about the process, not the product,” because she never pressured us to make our art projects turn out a certain way, but she wanted to make sure we were having fun. I think it’s great to let your goals make cute projects like this!
It’s really about them having fun and not about them doing it “right.” Its fascinating to see what they come up with!
Hi Emma – happy 4th of July to you and your beautiful family! We dont celebrate 4th of July in Australia – our big day is Australia Day – 26th of January 🙂 but I love the idea of the fireworks t-shirts – I’m going to hold that idea over til next January. And I have always figured the messier the kids are the more fun they’ve had!
Enjoy your day

Mabel loves to get messy. Evelyn on the other hand isn’t too crazy about mess. So its a nice balance 🙂
