Support Small Businesses: Here are Our Favorite Mommy and Me Shops

Have you supported a small business today? In these uncertain times, it’s easy to forget the difference this simple act of goodwill makes to your favorite brands.

Everyone is in lockdown because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Non-essential establishments are mostly shuttered, and some may never reopen.

Usually, independent ventures get some traction during National Small Business Week , an annual event of the U.S. Small Business Administration – but it’s been postponed this year. October is traditionally National Women’s Small Business Month , but who knows what the economic landscape will look like even a month from now?

Our favorite companies need our help more than ever – and they need it right now.

Why We Need to Support Small Business

When you support small businesses during a lockdown, you’re keeping them alive.

Did you know that the small business sector in the U.S. employed more than 45% of the country’s private workforce in 2015? You’re not only doing your part to keep your trusted brands afloat but also contributing to the job security of over 55 million people.

3 Mommy and Me Online Shops We Love

As a mom and business owner, I have a soft spot for mommy and me ventures. Here are a few of my mommy and me brands I’ve come across over the years.

1. Little Likes Kids

This black-owned small business excels in developing thoughtfully made products with diverse and multicultural designs.

We love all the high-quality toys from Little Likes Kids – especially the Splash Park Jumbo Puzzle. This one helps strengthen learning and memory while teaching children that families come in all colors and configurations.

2. Bubbles and Braids

This is the brainchild of Reshma Shamdasani, a mom with two daughters – like me! Also known as B&B, Bubbles and Braids is known for its charming handcrafted hair accessories made from vegan or vegetarian materials.

Check out their Animal Collection. Your little one will have fun choosing from a variety of designs: bunny, elephant, fox, owl, panda, seal, and more. It’s tempting to start a collection of B&B hair accessories. If you’re an animal lover in a charitable mood, start with B&B’s chimpanzee headband – 20% of its sales benefit the Jane Goodall Institute.

3. Lewis

We love this brand’s bedding, pajamas, and other baby stuff! Lewis uses 100% organic cotton when possible. All their products are soft and gentle on the skin, too.

This one is close to my heart as a Room to Grow ambassador. For every Lewis baby swaddle purchased in 2020, the mommy and me shop will donate a brand new baby item to the charity organization. The partnership will definitely help our mission to support parents in need through coaching, community, and provision of material goods.

Other Ways to Support Small Businesses During Lockdown

You’ve bought the items you needed. What else can you do to support small businesses?

If they offer gift cards, buy some. Pay them in advance for stuff you don’t need yet because they may need the money now.

Tell everyone about your favorite online shops, too! No going out during lockdown? No problem. Tweet about them. You can also use the “Support Small Business” sticker in your Instagram stories.
